About Us
The Oster Golf House Story
Like most guys, I love golf trips with my friends. I’m a married father of three children, so I appreciate the time away to relax, share a few laughs and re-connect. As I get older, I cherish these trips even more.
The reason I enjoy golf trips with friends is spending quality time TOGETHER. However, I became increasingly frustrated by the lodging choices at golf resorts. Staying in a hotel forced us to separate and provided no space to socialize in private. We could stay in a vacation rental house, but it’s hard to find one that can comfortably accommodate a group of 8 guys. Hotel suites or cottages would be nice, but the prices are ridiculous.
After realizing the type of experience I was searching for did not exist, I was determined to create it myself.
In 2005, I sat down with a blank sheet of paper and began writing ideas. I asked myself one question; “If I were to design a home specifically for groups on a golf trip, what would I include in that home?” This is what I wrote:
- Living Area – Large open concept, plenty of room to hang out, pool table, big TV, table for 8 to play cards, fully equipped kitchen.
- Bedrooms – Four big "master suites", two queen sized beds in each, plush mattresses, plasma TV, attached bathrooms with walk-in showers.
- Outside - Large patio with seating for 8, stainless steel grill, putting green
- Services - I want to offer services like an upscale hotel: Private chef, grocery shopping, massage therapists...etc.
Two years later my dream became a set of blueprints, and before long, my first “golf house” was built. That first home was near the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (on the southern Oregon coast) and it was a huge success. Evidently, people were looking for the type of experience we provide! I didn’t realize it at the time, but a business was born.
After a few more years of climbing the corporate ladder and feeling un-fulfilled, I found the courage to pursue “Oster Golf Houses” full time.
I searched the country for an ideal place to build my homes and that’s when I discovered the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. I tried to find property as close to the course as possible, and was very fortunate to succeed. In 2011, I built a home very close to the Oxmoor Valley clubhouse in Birmingham, AL.
Everyone I met along the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail was a pleasure to work with and my home in Birmingham was going well. Based on that success, I purchased one acre of land in Prattville, AL at Capitol Hill. Again, I was blessed to acquire an incredible piece of land overlooking the golf course. My first home in Prattville was completed in 2013 and the second home opened for guests in April, 2015. We continued to build houses over the years and added 2 homes at Oxmoor Valley. In 2020, after 5 years of pestering the developers of Gand National in Opelika (suburb of Auburn) they sold me an amazing property. We now have two Oster Golf Houses there, overlooking the 6th tee box of the Lake course.
Over the years, we’ve made continuous improvements to our homes and our services.
We strive to provide the best lodging experience at a reasonable price, so everyone can enjoy themselves. Our guests have been kind enough to write some wonderful reviews, so Please read our reviews and judge for yourself how we’re doing.
